If you know how to work a sewing machine and you have tried a few simple projects such as a basic skirt or pyjama bottoms and you are ready to take on the challenge of a sewing pattern, then this class is for you.
Taking place over five evenings or two full days in our welcoming studio in Hamilton, we will help you understand the jargon of a sewing pattern.
Firstly, you will learn how to measure yourself and select the right size for you, considering the finished garment size and pattern ease (don't worry, all this will be explained to you, and it is not as complicated as it sounds!) You will be guided through the process from start to finish ensuring you create a professional-looking garment that fits beautifully.
You can choose between making a toile (which is a practice garment) and learning how to make any necessary changes or adjustments to your pattern, or creating your final garment with help to ensure you achieve a professional finish.
Please consider your own ability when selecting the pattern to bring to class, if in doubt please get in touch.
What's included:
As well as all the tea you can drink, we will provide the sewing machines, all of the tools and threads you will need to complete your projects, and any interfacing elastic you will need. Lunch is provided in our all-day weekend classes.
What do I need to bring:
You will need to bring the fabric that you need for each project. You are free to bring this with you, or we have fabric available to buy in the studio. You will also be making the garment of your choice, so you will need to bring your chosen pattern to the class. We have a range of Tilly and The Buttons patterns for sale in the studio.
Who is this class for?
This class is for you if you have used a sewing machine before and completed some simple projects such as simple skirts or pyjama bottoms, and you feel ready to take on more complex sewing patterns.
This class is not for you if:
You have never used a sewing machine before - we recommend completing one of our beginner's classes first.
PLEASE NOTE: After booking this class you will be sent two emails. This first will confirm your booking and the second will contain important information such as where to find us and the fabric requirements for the class. If you do not receive these please check your junk mail.
We can only refund or make changes to your booking within 48 hours of booking, so please ensure you can make the class.
Our studio is on the first floor and unfortunately there is no lift.
